Christine und Georg Taschner-Kolmar

“Enjoying what you produce with a clear conscience”—this guiding principle led Christine and Georg Taschner-Kolmar to fully convert their Vienna-based farm to organic in 2008.

Since then, their organic fields have been home to lovingly cultivated chickpeas, beluga lentils, plate lentils, brown lentils, and camelina, all supplied directly to Schalk Mühle. “Switching to organic farming was a huge relief and a rewarding experience for us,” says Georg. For Christine and Georg, it’s about taking a step forward:

“Innovation over complaints, farm technology over chemicals, closer connections with customers, and cultivating food instead of just market produce.”

To them, organic farming means treating their land with respect to preserve it for future generations. And while the journey has its challenges, they wouldn’t have it any other way. “With camelina, for instance, we have to be careful not to pull it out when using the harrow,” Georg says with a smile. Christine adds, “Mixing lentil and camelina seeds evenly for a uniform growth is trickier than it seems!”
