Historically, rapeseed originated from the production of cooking and lamp oil, with fuel initially being deemed more important. It wasn’t until later that the food sector became more interesting, reaching its peak in margarine production. Today, rapeseed is utilized as cooking oil and biodiesel.
After a renewed growth phase in spring, the blooming period begins around mid-May and lasts for about four weeks. The rapeseed bloom is often referred to as the fifth season.
