The Schalk Mühle Discovery Tour: The tour begins at the grain mill. Next, you will visit the hydroelectric power plant museum. The tour continues in the oil press museum. The tour concludes with a tasting of our organic products.
The personally guided tour through Schalk Mühle is a true experience. Under the motto “For the Love of the Future,” visitors can experience how it is still possible today to produce sustainably and fairly, focus on quality, and revitalize the region.
The tour starts at the rustic grain mill, a 6-story wooden structure with machinery from the 1950s that could still be operated by hand until the end of 2020 to produce high-quality flours. A special highlight is an original East Tyrolean grain mill made of pine wood—never seen one? All the more reason to visit us!
Next, you will head to the lovingly restored hydroelectric power plant museum, where you can trace the path from water to electricity and learn the difference compared to a modern hydroelectric plant. The 100-year-old power plant, equipped with a Francis turbine, is still functional today; it was in operation until 2015 and had a daily output of 1,200 kWh.
The tour continues in the oil press museum, where you can see one of the oldest methods for producing Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI. This time-tested and now rare production method can hardly be seen anywhere else, making it an absolute highlight!
The tour concludes with a tasting of our oils and seeds—all in the best organic quality with 100% Austrian raw materials, produced sustainably and CO2-neutrally—simply “For the Love of the Future.” So take your time to taste and smell the finest homemade products while we are happy to provide advice.
