The story & idea
Schalk Mühle is a family-run business with over 160 years of tradition and is now managed in the sixth generation by Franz and Rainer Schalk. With passion, we process selected seeds and legumes from regional organic farming into high-quality foods – from cold-pressed cooking oils to protein powders and fruit purées, right through to snacks.
Together with our regional organic farmers, we focus on long-term, fair partnerships and strengthen sustainable agriculture based on a handshake. Our products stand for uncompromising quality and are produced strictly according to our values: ORGANIC. VEGAN. FAIR.

Directly from our farmers’ fields
Our valuable organic raw materials come from over 300 contract farmers across Austria, with whom we have close, personal and long-standing relationships. Without them, Schalk Mühle would not be what it is.
At the same time, we are deeply rooted in agriculture ourselves: Schalk Mühle has always farmed around 50 ha of organic arable land around Kalsdorf. This closeness to nature still shapes us today and has sustainably formed our understanding of responsibility at the start of every value chain.
Only the best raw materials
Selected seeds, kernels and legumes from 100% organic farming and 100% from Austria – single-variety, natural and selected with great care. Only the best that nature produces finds its way into our mill.
Our organic farming follows clear principles: no chemical-synthetic pesticides, no mineral nitrogen fertilisers and no genetic engineering. Instead, our organic farmers rely on healthy soils, natural cycles and respectful treatment of nature.
Production directly on site
In Kalsdorf near Ilz, we combine over 160 years of experience with modern technology and true craftsmanship. What generations before us learned, we implement today with care, awareness and respect for nature – in gentle processing that preserves values and creates quality.
Our entire production is CO₂-neutral: powered by our in-house hydropower plant and complemented by a 2,000 m² photovoltaic system on our roofs. This is how we combine tradition, responsibility and the future in every single product.

Over 60 organic products are made from the best raw materials – from virgin oils to proteins and fruit purées, right through to snacks and many other specialties. 100% organic, 100% vegan, 100% fair – made with care and ready for mindful enjoyment.
Our product world continues to grow, but our values remain unchanged. At the heart of it are the close relationships with our organic farmers from Austria, as well as our passion for the wellbeing of animals and the environment. This is how products are created that not only taste good, but also carry responsibility – in harmony with people, nature and origin.
