What does Demeter stand for?
Demeter is an organic association that follows the principles of biodynamic agriculture. However, the success of the Demeter association and its products is not only due to this approach, but also to the associated high standards that must be uniformly adhered to worldwide. Demeter’s goal is to produce food within the framework of sustainable biodynamic agriculture that nourishes body, mind, and spirit.

The Demeter Seal

With the Demeter seal, we pursue the approach of a biodynamic circular economy.

This means, on the one hand, that all essential resources on the farm – soil, plants, and animals – must be treated with respect. The animals kept are given sufficient exercise, space, and natural organic feed. Furthermore, plants may not be treated with pesticides or genetically modified, and even seeds from cell fusion technology are strictly forbidden. The soil is nourished only with cow manure and a few selected, natural soil preparations.

On the other hand, biodynamics at Demeter also means that each farm is to be seen as its own closed cycle. Therefore, Demeter farmers always cultivate their farm simultaneously with animals and plants. In the sense of an effective circular economy, plants nourish the animals, the animals’ manure nourishes the soil, and the soil nourishes the plants.

Furthermore, when processing Demeter organic raw materials, the quality of the biodynamic food must be preserved. Therefore, only gentle processing methods are used, which maintain the unique and natural (life) quality of the food. Only a few additives and processing aids are permitted during processing.
