Although the name still contains the word “pea”, it has little to do with the familiar green pea. However, the chickpea is also one of the legumes and is an annual plant. It does not grow very tall, but as we all know, size is not always what matters. So you can rely on the chickpea’s true greatness being in its quality.

The Romans called the chickpea shrub “cicer”, which means “pea”. Over time, as language continued to evolve, this developed into the well-known name “chickpea”.
