Gelbe Rapsblüten in Nahaufnahme vor leuchtend gelbem Rapsfeld

Rapeseed

(Brassica napus)

Historically, rapeseed originated from the production of edible and lamp oil, with fuel initially being classified as more important. It was only later that the food sector became more interesting, reaching its peak in the production of margarine. Today, rapeseed is used as an edible oil and biofuel.

After a renewed growth phase in spring, flowering begins around mid-May and lasts for about four weeks. The rapeseed flowering season is often referred to as the fifth season.
