Protein Burger Buns

These fluffy burger buns are the perfect vegan base for your next barbecue evening or burger feast. Made with spelt flour and our Essential Amino Protein Mix, they’re not only really delicious, but also a nutrient-rich alternative to conventional buns.

For approx. 8 buns you will need:
– 7 g dried yeast (= 1 sachet, or 20 g fresh yeast)
– 150 ml plant-based, lukewarm milk (e.g. soy milk or coconut drink)
– 2 tbsp sugar
– 400 g spelt flour
– 100 g Essential Amino Mix protein powder*
– 10 g salt
– 75 g soft margarine or vegan butter
For the yellow colour:
– a little plant-based milk
– a little turmeric or curry

It’s that easy:
1. Warm the plant-based milk, then let the sugar and yeast bloom in it for approx. 3 minutes until it starts to foam.
2. Mix the flour and salt in a bowl and make a well in the centre.
3. Add the soft margarine, water and yeast mixture to the well and work it into the dough.
4. Then knead the dough on a work surface or in a stand mixer with a dough hook for approx. 5 minutes.
5. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, moisten with a little water and cover with a tea towel in a warmer spot for approx. 1 hour (tip: Have more time? Then let the dough rise slowly overnight in the fridge).
6. After resting, shape the dough into 8 buns and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Cover again with a tea towel for approx. 30 minutes and let rise again.
7. After rising, place the buns in the oven (180°C – top/bottom heat) and bake for approx. 30 minutes.
And your delicious homemade burger buns are ready!
