Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)

No other food is as inseparably linked to Styria in its origin and development as Styrian pumpkin seed oil. It is vital to preserve this regionality and protect this typical specialty. Thus, “Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI” is one of the most strictly controlled and exclusive specialties with European protection of origin.

The PGI seal

The PGI seal, as well as the yellow-green banderole on the pumpkin seed oil bottles, are the guarantee that it is genuine Styrian pumpkin seed oil. It ensures seamless control of the organic origin of the pumpkin kernels, which is verified by the independent control body SGS Austria. For Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI, the continuous banderole number even allows tracing back to the protected geographical cultivation area from which the raw kernels originated.

However, not only the origin of the pumpkin kernels but also the production—from the grinding of the kernels to the bottling of the pumpkin seed oil—is subject to inspection.

The PGI seal is a strict guarantee of complete control from the field to the shop counter and ensures that strict quality criteria have been met during production.
