Deim Family

Northwest of Vienna, embraced by gentle hills, lies the Deim organic farm. The idyllic village is called “Sonndorf.” One doesn’t need to think long about how it may have gotten this name. Right here in Sonndorf, Margit and Gottfried Deim operate arable and wine cultivation—since the early 2000s even on a purely organic basis.

“At that time, switching to organic farming was still a rarity. But we quickly gained a foothold and from year to year we noticed that it was the right decision.”

The Deim family rightfully stands fully behind their products and values their naturalness also because they themselves like to use organic products. In their opinion, chemical additives have no place in harvested products. “Farming our fields organically means for us that we produce the harvest without any chemical products and deliver them to the end consumer that way. This is very important to us,” confirms the farmer.

“The earthworm is the organic farmer’s free employee,” he laughs. He refers to the fact that the so-called “hero of the soil” plows through the soil day in, day out during its burrowing activities and thus also forms a natural reservoir for rainwater, which is stored for dry periods. Also, one can quite frankly say, earthworm droppings are first-class organic fertilizer. Fact.

On these wonderfully naturally fertilized fields, flax, camelina, hemp and oil pumpkins have been sprouting for Schalk Mühle for many years. “We have been working with Schalk Mühle for several years now and are happy to have such a partner!” nods Mr. Deim. “The consultation as well as the harvest processing run optimally!” confirms Mrs. Deim.
