All around Vienna, in one of the most beautiful areas of Lower Austria, our lentils and chickpeas are sprouting happily. To be precise, they grow in the famous Marchfeld, which is often referred to as the “granary of Austria” and is part of the so-called Weinviertel. And right there, on this wonderful patch of earth, our organic partner farmer Ing. Markus Fellner takes care of sustainable organic farming.
Markus switched to organic as early as 2016. Courses, further training, and above all, many conversations with other organic farmers were instrumental in helping him. “This allowed me to prepare well for the transition. I also learned a lot by constantly trying out new ideas,” says the young farmer.
The Lower Austrian draws his motivation from the conviction that food produced without the use of chemicals is better and healthier.
“I want to leave an intact and valuable environment for our children!”
For him, the organic cultivation of the fields means, above all, engaging intensively with nature and learning to understand the complex processes between soil, animals, and plants holistically.
How does he feel about the cooperation with Schalk Mühle? “I appreciate the respectful treatment from Rainer and his team. This is how I imagine a partnership on equal footing between producer and processor,” says Markus. We are particularly pleased that there will continue to be many happy lentils and chickpeas from Markus’s fields for you in the future.
